  18. <p>     If a car can be repossessed, why not computer software? The
  19. Silicon Valley firm Logisticon, which has been locked in a
  20. dispute with Revlon over a $180,000 bill and licensing rights
  21. for custom software, decided that the cosmetics company should
  22. not use what it had not paid for. Without letting Revlon know
  23. in advance, Logisticon programmers used a telephone connection
  24. earlier this month to enter Revlon computers and disable the
  25. disputed software. The message got through. For three days,
  26. Revlon claims, hundreds of workers sat idle as two warehouses
  27. were unable to ship as much as $60 million in goods. "Software
  28. companies have to protect themselves," says Logisticon
  29. president Don Gallagher. Revlon says it refuses to pay because
  30. the program has failed to perform as promised. The company sued
  31. Logisticon last week in California state court for trespassing
  32. and breach of contract, calling the repossession "a form of
  33. commercial terrorism."
